American equity markets open higher ahead of FOMC
FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - The US stock market has opened higher Wednesday, ahead of the critical FOMC minutes later this afternoon at 18:00 GMT. The elephant in the room is the status and fate of the QE program in the US, which certainly has the potential to cause waves in markets.
Beginning with the indices and composites, the NASDAQ rose +0.18% as it settles in region of 3508.36, up +6.34 points in these moments. In addition, the S&P 500 is trading in positive territory, operating at 1673.32, ascending +4.20 points or +0.25% at the time of writing. Finally, the Dow Jones has edged higher at the opening, trading in the zone of 15416.39, presently +0.19% after a movement of +28.21 points.
Sectors are nearly all mixed at the opening, however the Basic Materials and Conglomerates sectors have distinguished themselves as the winners thus far, contracting +0.34% and +0.51% respectively. In other news, the price of crude is testing USD $94.99/bbl Wednesday.
